Backslide: A Detective Mike Eiser Short Story

Mike Eiser’s partner is killed by a sniper before his eyes. Now Eiser must find the sniper, solve two other murders and fend off his own arrest on trumped up child pornography charges at the same time. Can he do it?


Detective Mike Eiser is a conscientious small town cop. He takes he takes his friends and neighbors to heart. So when Mike’s partner and mentor, Charlie Bozeman is killed by a sniper right in front of Mike’s eyes, in a town that hasn’t had a murder in years, Mike needs to find the killer fast. The evidence points to a trained military or law enforcement sniper. Eiser’s boss, Sheriff Glenn Glassman is a trained sniper – could he be the killer? Or is there a corrupt conspiracy designed to make Mike Eiser a victim too?

Clabe Polk is into a second career as a writer of fiction.  So far, he has written two novels, several short stories, assorted screen plays and has a couple of novels in process. He is a life-long reader with a great variety of life experiences that has led him to write a variety of different types of fiction.

Mr. Polk retired after nearly thirty-seven years in professional environmental protection, that included administrative, civil, and criminal law enforcement.  Having studied Marine Zoology and natural sciences at the University of South Florida, he has spent most of his life among the woods, waters, fields and farms of Florida and Georgia.

He currently lives in Powder Springs, Georgia with his wife, two daughters and the family’s cockerpoo named ‘Annie’.
